Ed Smith was chief selector for England cricket for three years. During that period, England won the World Cup for the first time and rose to 1st, 1st and 4th in the world rankings. In terms of matches won, it was the most successful period in the history of the ECB, and England enjoyed a winning record against every other international team.
As a player for Kent, Middlesex and England, Ed scored over 12,000 first-class runs at an average of 42.
Ed captained Middlesex, with the club winning its first major trophy for 15 years. In 2016, Ed was consultant to Royal Challengers Bangalore, who reached the IPL Final, the franchise’s most successful season.
